China pushes cooperation with Asean amid sea row

The Chinese government has committed to push for cooperation with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) even as a high-ranking official maintained anew its territorial sovereignty in the West Philippine Sea. “China firmly upholds its territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests and state security,” Chinese vice premier Zhang Gaoli said during his speech at the opening of 11th China-ASEAN Expo on Tuesday. Zhang said this even as he highlighted China’s commitment to advancing friendship and cooperation with ASEAN, calling this year as the beginning of a new decade for the China-ASEAN strategic partnership.
